Comic Strip Interpretation With Stephanie Doss

  • Franklin and Frazz laid on the ground staring up at the sky, contemplating the plane above them.
“I say play it safe,” Franklin said. “If Amelia Earhart had never tried to fly, she would be alive today.”
Frazz shook his head, “Amelia Earhart was born in 1897, so she probably wouldn’t be alive today. And nobody would have heard of her.”
Franklin looked over at Frazz. “So risk is good?”
Frazz glanced back at him confidently, replying, “Risk is vital.”
Excited, Franklin sat up and exclaimed, “Cool! Let’s go skateboarding on the freeway ramp!”
Sighing, Frazz turned slowly to Franklin. “Calculated risk.”

  • When I hear “Writing/Reading Workshop,” I think that we are going to be learning more about how to read and write properly. Workshop to me, sounds like you will be working on one specific topic that day and learning more about it. You will be given tips or resources on you topic to take back to your classroom or just to use in general.

Language-Focused Mini-lesson/Microteaching:

I think I may want to do my mini lesson on commas and their usage. Commas can be tricky and confusing sometimes, even to me still so I want to make sure the students understand their usage.

  • Another possible lesson would be on inferencing.

Another possible mini lesson would be on "Grammar Goofs" Words that have more than one meaning and are spelt different for the different meanings. These can be very confusing to students so I think a mini lesson would be great on that!
  • This poster is a really good resource and example of the type of mini lesson I am talking about.
